A Summary of the FaCTTS® Methodology
FaCTTS® is a mnemonic for the integration of facilitation, coaching, training, teaching and speaking.
These are primary methods used in helping people to learn information and skills.
"Mentoring" belongs in there as well, however mentoring has these distinctive aspects - mentors are chosen by the person seeking it; mentors are experts in the topic; mentors are often "in-house" or ex-positional. Mentors are usually "elders" in the role. One doesn't "study" mentoring, one becomes a mentor by experience in the topic and being open approachable helpful tolerant and respectful.
FaCTTS® is a dynamic and deliberately planned integration of all the methods to ensure specific knowledge and skills are understood, remembered and chosen to be used by participants back in their workplace or life.
FaCTTS® is a superior retention delivery method ideal for developing time poor people and organisations.
FaCTTS® delivers a return on investment exceeding 500%.
Most people involved in helping others to acquire knowledge and skills develop expertise in one or some of these core approaches. Few develop skills in all areas due to personal preferences and time available.
Most learning content is designed to use a specific method of delivery e.g. facilitation, coaching training or speaking.
David Deane-Spread has deep interest in all these methods and has made a study of the following: -
• Facilitation – both small and large group facilitation, in particular Open Space Technology and Appreciative Inquiry Summit.
• Coaching – personal coaching for behaviour and executive functioning.
• Teaching – a focus on helping people remember and understand relevant information/knowledge.
• Training – a focus on understanding and performing skill sets.
• Speaking – concentrated delivery of powerful insights and key information in an enjoyable and memorable manner.
Additionally he has studied: -
• Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) – modelling how people think behave perform and adapt in ways that work well for them.
• Accelerated Learning Techniques – methods and processes that help people retain and understand more and more easily.
• Adult Learning Techniques – best ways for adults to learn and enjoy the experience.
He is an internationally qualified NLP Master practitioner; a member of the Open Space Institute of Australia and an accredited member of the National Speakers Association of Australia (currently WA chapter president) and a graduate of their Australian Professional Speakers Academy.
His last military posting was second-in-command of Australia’s Military Police School and whilst a member of the former Australian Narcotics Bureau (now merged with the Australian Federal Police) was involved in the training for covert operations.
In developing his personal services offered at this site and also Australian Leadership Journeys (www.alj.com.au), he has fully integrated the above study and ensures that all workshop and training sessions he designs incorporates the integrated methodology he has named as FaCTTS®. He has been involved in training and coaching since the early seventies.
The manner and order in which the integration occurs is dependent upon the aspect of content being delivered and the nature and state of the participants.
The standard process (varied to suit particular needs and situations) is: -
- Initial meeting to understand needs.
- Visit and meet key people involved to assess current status.
- Second meeting to set delivery/intervention process, outcomes and measurement of key indicators.
- Deliver document if required that confirms 3 above.
- Deliver intervention – and, if training, follow-up coaching.
- Measure outcomes – over agreed time and indicators.
- Review/stage meeting.
